FreeRice Career and Technical Education High Tech Early College - Denver |
What is FreeRice? FreeRice is a non-profit web site run by the United Nations World Food Program. It was started a number of years ago by a man who recognized the importance of good vocabulary to help his son prepare for college. It has 2 main goals: First, to provide free education to all and, second, to provide free rice to feed the world's hungry. How does it work? There are 13 games in six subject areas from which to choose. English Vocabulary is the "game of choice" in my classes. You will be given a word and four possible choices for its meaning. If you select the correct answer, 10 grains of rice are donated to the U.N. World Food Program. If you guess incorrectly, the word will repeat itself sometime during the game. The vocabulary level will also self adjust as you play the game. Cool. What happens to the rice I earn? This is a legitimate game. The rice you earn is actually donated to the U.N. World Food Program and shipped to countries around the world where it is needed. It takes 19200 grains of rice to feed someone for a day. What you do in this classroom is literally saving someone's life! How do I get started? Go to freerice.com and register to play. When you register, don't forget to join the High Tech Early College FBLA team. Simply login everytime you play and the rice you earn is automatically credited to you and the team.
Our Goal: 7,000,000 Grains of Rice Cumulative Total Enough Rice to Feed
