Welcome to Intro to Multimedia. This class introduces the types of equipment and technical considerations used in multimedia productions and the multimedia profession. It focuses on current types of equipment such as scanners, printers, digital camera, and computers. Students gain hands-on experience in how the technology is utilized for input and output in production and design projects. Overview of software and basic design principles will be explored. This class is offered as concurrent enrollment with the Community College of Aurora. Prerequisite: ENG060 equivalent on the Accuplacer.


UNIT 1: MICROSOFT POWERPOINT
The objective of this unit is to introduce students to presentation software and its use in the business community. Students will demonstrate this knowledge by completing two projects. The Music Video project will demonstrate knowledge of the mechanics of the PowerPoint program. The Business Presentation project will follow the FBLA guidelines for Business Presentation and demonstrate how to apply PowerPoint in a business setting. Students will receive a Certificate of Achievement for successful completion of this Unit.

UNIT 2: ADOBE INDESIGN
The objective of this unit is to introduce students to print media design software. Adobe InDesign is a comprehensive, industry standard software that allows you to create output ready layouts for anyting from a simple business card to a 160 page, full-color yearbook. Students will complete skill exercises based on The Design Collection text as well as independent projects for their portfolio. Students will receive a Certificate of Achievement for successful completion of this Unit.

UNIT 3: ADOBE PHOTOSHOP
The objective of this unit is to introduce students to photo editing software. Adobe Photoshop is an image-editing softwaresoftware that allows you to create and edit digital images. Adobe Photoshop is the acknowledged industry standard software for photo editing. Students will complete skill exercises in The Design Collection text as well as independent projects for their portfolio. Students will receive a Certificate of Achievement for successful completion of this Unit.

UNIT 4: ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR
The objective of this unit is to introduce students to illustration software. Adobe Illustrator allows you to create everything from simple graphics, icons, and text to more complex and multilayered illustrations which cam be used in print or web media. Students will complete skill exercises in The Design Collection text as well as independent projects for their portfolio. Students will receive a Certificate of Achievement for successful completion of this Unit.

UNIT 5: ADOBE DREAMWEAVER
The objective of this unit is to introduce students to web design software. Adobe Dreamweaver the acknowledged industry leader in web design software. This unit will focus on "front end" design. Students will complete skill exercises as well as independent projects for their portfolio. Students will receive a Certificate of Achievement for successful completion of this Unit.

UNIT 6: ADOBE FLASH
The objective of this unit is to introduce students to animation software. Adobe Flash is a comprehensive, industry standard software that allows you to create simple to complex animations. Students will complete basic skill exercises as well as an independent project for their portfolio. Students will receive a Certificate of Achievement for successful completion of this Unit.
